Introduction of Sonia Gandhi – Former President of the Indian National Congress
Sonia Gandhi, the former president of the Indian National Congress, is a well-known politician icon in India. She is of Italian descent and a member of the Nehru-Gandhi family because of her nuptial engagement with Rajiv Gandhi. She was born on 9 December 1946 in Italy’s small village, Vicenza. She had her upbringing in a Roman Catholic Christian family. She tied the knot with Rajiv Gandhi in 1968, took up Indian citizenship and stayed in India with her husband and mother-in-law, Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India. Sonia is the mother of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi (Vadra), both the children are politicians. Sonia shielded herself from the political involvement called public sphere, notwithstanding the fact that her husband was the Prime Minister of India. Post-assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, the Congress party, devoid of a chief leader, sought the intervention of Sonia Gandhi to become the party’s president, a request turned down initially but later she acquiesced to it, thus prompting her nomination as the president of the Congress party. The leadership position Sonia assumed gave the much-needed stimulus to the languid Congress party which resuscitated animatedly and soon formed a coalition government with the support of Centre-left political parties post the 2004 elections. The virtue of her leadership skill was noted appreciatively post her instrumental contribution to the formation of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) after the general election of 2004. Though a unanimously declared chief of Indian National Congress, after the victory of 2004 general election, a request to become the Prime Minister of India was turned down by Sonia, an unprecedented decision if seen through the prism of political observations. During her tenure as a president of the advisory councils, measures like Rights-based approach to development and many welfare schemes like MNREGA, Food Security Bill and Right to Information were brought to the fore and implemented. Scandals concerning Bofors and National Herald Case, as well as her individuality of foreign origin, drew her to howl of criticism and controversy. She stepped down as the president of Congress party citing health reasons but remained associated with the party’s Parliamentary committee. Honors and recognition to her credit include Honorary Doctorate (Literature) by the University of Madras in 2008, Order of King Leopold by the Government of Belgium in 2006, and Honorary Doctorate by the Brussels University in 2006.

A complex one, both at its best and its worst, Cancer is one of the most intriguing signs of Zodiac. Ruled by Moon, the moody, temperamental Cancer is a sensitive, emotional, watery Sign, and can be closely associated to its animal symbol ‘Crab’. The tenacious exterior shell of most Cancer subjects belies their super-soft, benevolent, nurturing side, which to be fair to them, is truly their trademark. They tend to become too cautious and sometimes painfully slow, while dealing with the situations and world at large. From being quiet and shy at a time to being outspoken, flamboyant and strong at others, Cancer is a sign of many extremes. Cranky and sweet, Cancer natives are capable of all sorts of emotions.
Ruler of the Ascendant Moon is in a dual nature air sign Gemini. Moon is positioned in the 12th house. This position of Moon does not spell to be a happy proposition for Sonia Gandhi.
