Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak Jayanti And Its Importance

Bal Gangadhar Tilak, the man who was born in the sacred land of India and is respected far and wide across the country for his contributions to bringing forth transformative changes in society, is held in deep reverence by the people of the country. Grand events are organised at many places on his birth anniversary. He was one of the greatest nationalists and social reformers. A highly reputable advocate, he was one of the key driving forces behind evoking a stimulating push to India’s freedom fight. He was the main behind sloganeering the epic line – Swarajmerajanmasiddhadhikarhai (Independence is my birthright). The slogan sank deeper into the minds of enslaved Indians and proved to be a precursor to giving momentum to India’s freedom fight. He spared no pains in freeing India from British rule. He was extremely good at the Marathi language. He was born on July 23, 1856, in the Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra. Though he was well-read in modern education, he was one of the ardent critics of English education and culture. He used to say that English education lacked knowledge of India and Indian sentiments. He was a well-respected teacher in schools during his time. He contributed an immense role in establishing the Deccan Education Society (in 1884) aiming to reform the education system throughout India. He was also a prominent player in India’s politics. He opposed the moderate attitude of the Indian National Congress and was downright committed to his goal to achieve freedom for India and its welfare. This attitude of him led others in Congress to declare him an Extremist. However, his ideology inspired other freedom fighters like LalaLajpatRai and Vipin Chandra Pal who assisted him in the freedom fight. Bal Gangadhar Tilak extolled the steps taken by Khudiram Bose against the British. He authored many books aiming to bring forth reformation in society and the country. To defend the country from the tyranny of the outsiders, he suffered unspeakable torments, including jail terms and cruelties of the British Administration. However, such a patient and sombre personality like Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak never backed away from his goal. His countless essays still carry the sparks of patriotism and education. Lokmanya Tilak Jayanti, therefore, has great significance. Bal Gangadhar Tilak Ji, the man known for his noble efforts like bringing social reforms and achieving India’s freedom, passed away on August 01, 1920, thereby triggering a wave of grief among his supporters. We, the people of India, will never forget the education and Independence struggles of Shri Bal Gangadhar Tilak. He will always be remembered for his sacrifice in India. The Indian Government has built various monuments and trains under his name.
