Lord Shri Mahavir Jayanti

Mahavir Jayanti: In this world deep-rooted with religious sentiments, the divine almighty often takes various incarnations to protect and ensure safety measures for mankind from self-destructive elements, such as lust, rage, arrogance, infatuation, and greed. Moreover, these divine incarnations have also laid the groundworks for grief-stricken mankind in the attainment of direction toward truth and light from the realm confined in pitch darkness. Therefore, the birth of Lord Mahavir as the 24th Tirthankara (supreme preacher) of the Jain religion (Jainism) is seen as one of the divine incarnations, in this context.

About the birth of Lord Mahavir, it is said that he was born around 599 BCE in the republic kingdom of Kshatriyakund. His family is believed to have hailed from the most auspicious Ikshvaku dynasty, which is said to have been the birthplace of many divine beings. Despite being born in a well-to-do royal family, baby Mahavir remained undisposed to handling royal affairs. However, the birth of Mahavir caused unprecedented prosperity in the kingdom due to which Mahavir was later known by another name, Vardhman.

Before Mahavir was born, his mother dreamed 16 auspicious dreams. The dream was an indication to the parents about the impending incarnation of Lord Mahavir to obliterate malefic elements, such as violence, lies, and cruelty from the earth. Thus, Lord Mahavir was brought up in royal prosperity. Later, he married on the insistence of his parents. However, the marriage didn’t dissuade him from his focused goal of discovering the truth and self-enlightenment.
